Mortons House Hotel

Welcome to our Luxury Dorset Hotel. The owners and staff welcome you to the "Small Hotel of the Year 2005" (Finalists 2006/07), their enchanting sixteenth century Elizabethan Manor House Hotel in Dorset with a 2 AA Rosette Restaurant. Built in 1590 in the shape of an 'E' to honour Queen Elizabeth I, it has in more recent times been sympathetically converted into a twenty one-bedroom luxury hotel.

Situated in the heart of the Isle of Purbeck, this enchanting Dorset Hotel provides the perfect centre from which to enjoy this beautiful corner of England. The individual guest rooms all have private bathroom, television, telephone and tea & coffee making facilities.

Proud of the commendations received for its traditional English cuisine, Mortons House also boasts an excellent wine list and rooms are available for private parties, conferences and receptions. Personally run by the owners, Mortons House has a dedicated team of staff who have your interests at heart: "Our mission is for you to enjoy this luxury Dorset Hotel, the award winning restaurant and the beautiful surroundings."

The Hotel
Mortons House is one of the earliest in Corfe and perhaps the finest. Dating back to circa 1590, the house was originally known as 'Dacombs', after William Dacomb. William was a wealthy gentleman owning many plots of land and the Dacomb family themselves were prominent citizens of the village of Corfe. 'Dacombs' was extended in 1666, probably with stone taken from the Castle. Inherited by John Morton in 1712, the house was then passed to the Bond family through marriage. Mortons House was once linked by underground tunnels to Corfe Castle. The imposing entrance hall has the original minster stone fireplace and leads to a magnificent oak-panelled drawing room, lined with exotic wooden friezes which were carved by Indonesian sailors.

"The intention here at Mortons House Hotel is to produce a top quality menu for you using predominantly local produce, served in a traditional way with a few twists of innovation to tempt the palate."

Returning to Mortons House in early summer 2008 as Restaurant Manager is Amy Hendes. Amy worked for us before, starting as trainee waitress in November 2003. Her intention was to do a three-month stint and learn all she could. She certainly did, this confident Australian lass stayed with us for a couple of years! Leaving us as a Chef de Rang capable of running the restaurant. After further experience gained at the Sydney Harbour Hyatt, we tempted her back to run our dining room.
